Description: MEDLINE belongs to the most important sources of information in medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and the preclinical sciences. MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine bibliographic database and contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 4 800 international biomedical journals. The database contains over 13 million citations dating back to the mid- 1960's. Coverage is worldwide but most records are from English-language sources or have English abstracts. MEDLINE also contains records of chapters and articles from selected monographies. Records are classified by the thesaurus MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). Annual increase is about 550 000 records. Since 2001 MEDLINE newly contains also records from formerly single databases AIDSLine, BioEthicsLine, ToxLine, PopLine a HealthStar. OLDMEDLINE currently contains approximately two million citations to articles from international biomedical journals from 1951 through 1965.
